Cycling for peace and education
We need you to join us, either as a cyclist, taking on this adventure with us (there’s no requirement to be Bradley Wiggins, but you will need to practice riding long distances beforehand!), or as a sponsor, donating to support our remarkable riders.
Our aim is to raise funds for The Aegis Trust, the World’s leading genocide prevention charity, and Team Rwanda, Rwanda’s national cycling team. 100% of money you raise or donate will be shared between these causes.
Responsible for Rwanda’s Kigali Genocide Memorial, Aegis runs a peace-building education programme bringing together children of survivors and perpetrators of the genocide – equipping them to work together to build a future free from fear and division. For more about the Aegis Trust, see aegistrust.org.
Team Rwanda, funded almost entirely by donations, searches for talent to empower, enable and inspire not just individuals but families, communities and a nation through cycling. For more information about Team Rwanda, see teamrwandacycling.org.
Our first ride, May-June 2012, involved a dozen riders and raised over £30,000. This year, we are looking for even more cyclists to join us!
Register for the ride before 9 May and subject to availability, we will offer you a free ticket (standard price, £45 – available here) to join Team Rwanda’s star rider Adrien Niyonshuti – and other stars of sport and screen – for the European premiere of ‘Rising from Ashes’, Team Rwanda’s incredible story of triumph over adversity. Taking place at the Odeon Leicester Square, 7.00pm on 9 May, it will also be a chance for you to meet some of your fellow riders for the first time.
