Registration is now open for cyclists to sign up for the 2013 London to Paris bike ride supporting the Aegis Trust, the leading genocide prevention charity, and Team Rwanda, Rwanda’s national cycling team.

You can register here, or click here to find out more about the two incredible organisations the ride will support.

“Whether you’re a regular cyclist or someone who’s hardly used a bike in years, if Aegis’ 2012 London-Paris ride was anything to go by, it promises to be an invigorating and unforgettable experience,” says Dr James Smith, Aegis’ Chief Executive and one of the riders in 2012.

Leaving Greenwich, London on Thursday 29August, the ride will cover nearly 280 miles in four days to arrive at the Trocadero, opposite the Eiffel Tower in Paris, on Sunday 1 September. Nightly accommodation, professional ride support, and a return to London by Eurostar on Monday 2 September are all included. For riders who don’t currently own a bike, or prefer to leave theirs at home, cycle hire for the event is available.

“To take part, entrants need to pay a £150 registration fee and then raise a minimum of £1200 in sponsorship by 1 August – but Aegis provides assistance and advice throughout the fundraising process,” says organiser Rony Cohen. “All proceeds from the ride will be shared between Aegis and Team Rwanda, so as well as burning off around 600 calories an hour during the ride, you’ll be helping to change many lives for the better!”

Subject to availability, everyone who registers for the ride by Thursday 9th May will be offered a free ticket to join Team Rwanda’s star rider Adrien Niyonshuti in London at the Odeon Leicester Square for the European Premiere of ‘Rising from Ashes’. Narrated and executively produced by Hollywood legend Forest Whitaker, this award-winning documentary tells the story of Team Rwanda and how these amazing riders have triumphed over poverty, adversity and the legacy of the 1994 genocide.

If you would really like to support the cause but don’t want to ride all the way from London to Paris yourself, you could sponsor the team or buy seats at the ‘Rising from Ashes’ premiere. Available at £45, all proceeds go to support Aegis and Team Rwanda. See this link for tickets and the movie trailer: http://risingfromasheslondon.eventbrite.co.uk
